BACKGROUND:

Background:

His canon point is after the anime ends, he and Ugetsu have had a huge falling out over Ugetsu bringing one of his lovers back to the apartment. Kaji has left and is currently sleeping wherever he can often sleeping with someone to get a bed for the night. Right before arriving he will have lashed out at Haruki by answering the phone while being intimate with a woman so the other would hear. Their band lost the CAC which is a big music competition, other than this there are no major events to note between the end of the anime and his pull point.

PERSONALITY:

A good man with a scary face is often how Kaji is described, and this is undoubtedly accurate. He does not look like the kind of guy you would go to for advice, but throughout the series, we see him help and guide his younger bandmates as they navigate their way around falling in love. That he is observant is also shown in how he sees beneath Uenoyama's haughty exterior to the good young man he is and how he recognizes what the other is feeling for Mafuyu long before he does and is the one to point it out and in many ways lead them to each other. Showing that he cares, wants what is best for his bandmates. He often gives encouragement or advice, but he also can do both in such a way that it seems he is teasing.

That is not to say he is all good; Kaji can be shown to have a manipulative side, with how he flirts with and otherwise harasses his bandmate Haruki. He knows Haruki has feelings for him, knows he is unavailable due to his current on-again-off-again relationship with his first boyfriend, whom he still lives with. Yet, he will toy with Haruki, keeping him interested while Kaji himself navigates the storm that is his love life.

Kaji is a flirtatious man with a love for long hair, he is often found playing with Haruki's hair, but it is seen that he will also fix Yayoi's (Uenoyama's) sister's hair as well. At his canon point, he has just left Ugetsu after another violent fight. He is currently a devil without care, sleeping with whoever to have a place to sleep for the night, showing that during this time Kaji is dealing with some self-destructive behavior as he feels the honest end of his first love, the man he fell in love with his first year in high school approaching in a crashing wave of pain. He uses this self-destruction to try and hurt Haruki when the other calls while he is intimate with a woman. He answers the phone to make sure Haurki hears what he is doing, wanting to lash out because he is hurting and he wants to crash and burn, while at the same time wanting Haruki to save him. It shows he is conflicted between the man he is with Ugetsu and the man he wants to become.

These actions also showcase his more fragile self; it shows that Kaji feels things deep in his bones, that when something hurts he can not handle it just a little but starkly through him and after years of back and forth, you hurt me, I hurt you with Ugetsu he is starting that pattern with Haruki, uncertain how to move forward in a relationship that does not come together like a typhoon to tear lives asunder. Because he is fragile himself and broken, instead of asking for help, he first lashes out, taking his pain out on the one person he knows can save him because, at the moment, he does not want to be saved.

Kaji is a passionate man, with a heart of gold, a flirtatious streak, and a deep-seated need to be better than he is while still holding on to the love that has helped to take so much while giving it at the same time. His inability to give up on Ugetsu no matter how many times he is pushed away shows that Kaji is a loyal person if not a faithful lover, he and Ugetsu have done we are together but not together for so long that having different lovers was nothing new, he just never let himself love them because his heart was taken. Each lover for Kaji is another knife into his skin, to make himself hurt the way Ugetsu hurts him, Or merely a warm body and a bed for the night so he does not have to sleep alone, at this canon point either or could be the case. He will pile on his guilt and self-loathing because of it.

Kaji is a blunt man; he may twist words or draw away from speaking about a topic if he does not want to reveal something. But when he does speak, he says what he means, if he has a question, he asks it rather than treading lightly on feelings of the person he is asking. He has no compulsion to beat around the bush or pretend that he feels another way; instead, he will tell you what he thinks and flash a grin afterward. He has also been shown to have a dry sense of humor, using quips and other verbal barbs to lighten up situations or tease a rise out of someone in a good-natured way.

He has a passion for music that is currently underwater from the love he found in high school, the music, and that love became tangled. Thus Kaji has stepped back from an instrument he loves and misses, without realizing he misses it, the violin. It will always remain a unique instrument to him, but it is so buried under Ugetsu that for now, he is straining to find it again. When he does play with his heart, his passion, and talent shine through as he does deeply love music in his soul, he wants to continue to create it; he is just a little lost.

POWERS/ABILITIES:

Kaji is a musician, he can play a variety of instruments, but his main two are the drums and violin. It is said in canon he is talented and plays passionately.
